A 100% Legal Recording
100% Legal Recording
Our Licensing Process
When you record with Legacy
Productions, we follow the copyright law to make sure your recording
is 100% legal.
Unfortunately, many recording
projects recorded elsewhere are not entirely legal. To change
that, we actively educate musicians about the copyright
law as it applies to music. We created this web page for this
purpose:

As
a recording service, we decided early that
we would always take this important step in production
(music licensing, or asking permission). At first it cost us
more. In time, that decision has helped us serve our clients
better and become a stronger, more profitable company.

Whenever
you record a song that someone else wrote, you need to get
permission from the copyright holder. This permission is
called a Mechanical License.
Securing
licensing to record copyrighted music can be difficult if you
haven't done a lot of this. For this reason, most recording services
leave this task up to the artist. In turn, many artists spend
way too long and get way more frustrated than they need to. Or
worse, they give up and never ask permission.
As
a recording service, we decided early that
we would always take this important step in production. At
first it cost us more. In time, that decision helped us serve
our clients better and become a stronger, more profitable
company. You see, we worked hard to learn the licensing
process. We got good at it, and now we help you. Today,
we are proud to be true music licensing experts. Every day we
help musicians across the country get permission to record
copyrighted music through our web service, easySongLicensing.com
For you, this
means we handle all the work and pay the expenses of securing
licensing so that your CD is a 100% legal recording.
Since
our founding, we have built our company on principles of honesty
and legality. Our dedication to these principles has made us
a leader in production of legal, small-quantity recordings, and in
the education of musicians about music copyright laws.
We are proud to lead education
efforts regarding copyright law and how it helps musicians make
money. Our presentation at the Minnesota Music Educators (MMEA)
conference in the winter of 2008 impressed educators,
composers, and musicians. That discussion caught the attention
of the Minneapolis Public Schools, who asked us to present to their
music educators as well. We will continue discussions
wherever we are welcome to further education about music and the
copyright law.
| Even if you hear the
gossip...
I heard it doesn't really matter if you're
only making a few copies.
I heard I don't need licensing if I'm not charging for the
album.
I heard it's okay to copy for educational purposes.
Make sure to know the truth:
It is illegal to record copyrighted music for
distribution without permission from the writer, arranger, or
publisher of the written work, regardless of quantity, price, or
method of distribution. |
